What I’ve Learned

What I’ve Learned

Five years ago we partnered with EdisonReport to produce the popular ‘What I’ve Learned’ series. We would like to revive this monthly series featuring people (like you!) sharing what they have learned both personally and professionally.

We are looking for 9 – 12 lessons you’ve learned in life and in business. We’d ask you to go light on the platitudes or cliches (‘treat your customers well’, etc.) and focus more on ‘hard lessons’, poignant observations and bold realizations that you have had. In the past, some of our best-received editions featured a lighting professional speaking candidly about sometimes hard lessons they learned from a divorce, a parent, or a loss (even the passing of a loved one) and how they somehow overcame or grew from it. And a humorous life or work lesson (or two) is always welcome, also!

For example, a personal lesson from me—my mother died at a relatively young age (58) of lung cancer. She had been the person who believed in me more than anyone else, so it was a huge shock for me when she passed suddenly. But it changed forever how I looked at people close to me—starting with my dad, with whom I’d never been that close. But that all changed when my mom left us, and it also affected how I looked at other people who were close to me and I realized all I was guaranteed was that particular day with them—everything else going forward was a bonus.

And just as important, we need a photo of you from as early as possible in your business career. If you have it now, great! If not, don’t worry, go ahead and share your lessons with us now and get your photo to us once you find it.

Please note: a photo from early as possible in your business career will be required in order to be considered for our series.
